Fundamentals of Sustainable Development™

This four-day live seminar will not be offered again during the current calendar year. However, you may wish to consider hosting this course in-house at your own location by contacting 770-279-4391.

About this Seminar

Sustainable development has evolved into a critical and major policy issue for a world facing serious environmental issues, energy concerns, and population growth. Implementing successful sustainable development programs requires a balanced understanding of the technologies and realities faced by governments, institutions, and corporations. All of these elements have been refined and fully clarified in this focused, comprehensive seminar, to provide you with the skills you'll need to create sustainable development plans, customize key components for your organization, and deliver a successful program.

The course enables you both to expand your knowledge in the field, and as well to prepare for the examination required to achieve AEE's Certified Sustainable Development Professional (CSDP) certification. For those wishing to qualify for the certification, the CSDP examination will be administered on the afternoon of the final day of the seminar following morning instruction.

Executive Order 13514 / Federal Leadership in Environmental, Energy, and Economic Performance mandated that at least 15% of existing federal buildings and leased facilities meet Energy Efficiency Guiding Principles by 2015 and that annual progress is made toward 100% conformance of all federal buildings. The Order additionally set the goal that all new federal buildings achieve net-zero-energy status by 2030. This course is also designed to provide the training and tools needed by those involved in the process of meeting the goals set by this Executive Order.

Emphasis is placed on understanding how the many diverse elements of "green" design, and sustainable technologies and related cost implications, can truly result in a well defined and manageable sustainable development plan. This course is intended for professionals whose roles include supervising and managing both sustainable programs and energy and design professionals. Critical elements of your responsibilities may include such areas as:

  • Energy management, engineering or architectural design, with involvement in green programs
  • Municipal, institutional sustainability program development
  • Corporate and industrial sustainability development
  • Managing building or campus infrastructure(s)
  • Integrating energy and sustainability programs
  • Using alternative energy and renewable energy systems
  • Financing and delivering your sustainability program
  • Marketing green and/or sustainable products/programs/services

This course earns 2 CEUs, 20 PDHs and 4 AEE Credits toward Re-certification and is:

  • AIA learning units eligible.
  • An GBCI / CMP approved training course.

Further information on course accreditation and recognition.

This is a preparatory course for the Association of Energy Engineers Certification Exam:

Certified Sustainable Development Professional | CSDP®
