AEE offers self-paced seminars to provide students the opportunity to participate in continuing education courses, earn CEUs and receive a certificate of completion without traveling or following a course class meeting schedule.
These self-paced home-study courses can be taken any time during the designated term period. Here's how the program works:
Each registered student receives a printed book containing all the course material along with the e-mail address of the instructor so that questions can be asked at any time during the term. (Students outside the US are charged an additional shipping fee which is calculated and approved by the student before the registration is processed.) Each student who completes the course questions found in the printed book, returns them for scoring, and makes at least 70 will receive a certificate of completion and 1 CEU. The CEU credit can be used toward recertification. BASICS OF ENERGY MANAGMENT, Barney Capehart, Instructor This self-study course serves as preparation for the CEM seminars and thoroughly covers these topics: - the need for energy management;
- the basic concepts, terms and definitions of energy in its many forms;
- the numerical, calculation and algebra skills needed to solve energy management problems;
- how to perform basic energy analyses and cost evaluations;
- facility electrical systems and electric rates;
- how to perform basic economic analyses of energy projects; and
- the basic role of energy using equipment in a typical facility.
The seminar was designed with two purposes in mind: - to develop (or review) the problem-solving skills needed for solving energy management problems by
- covering the use of a calculator in problem solving
- reviewing algebra skills
- explaining problem-solving methods, and
- providing a large number of example problems to practice on, and
- to provide background information on energy topics covered in AEE's energy management seminars.
People who need to improve their problem-solving skills will benefit from taking this seminar. Anyone who wants to take either the Five-Day or the Two-Day CEM certification course but who does not have a background in engineering, has not been involved in engineering-type activities in the energy field, or feels that his problem solving skills are inadequate will benefit. Engineers and other technical people who need to review using a calculator, algebra and problem-solving skills will also find this course invaluable.
