It is intended both for individuals who aspire to the position, as well as for top decision makers who wish to define and pave the way for successful implementation of an energy manager role within their organization.

AIA Learning Units Eligible

This course has been approved by AIA for continuing education credits. The AIA requires that its registered architect members earn 18 Learning Unit (LU) hours of continuing education credit annually (eight hours of which must be related to Health, Safety, and Welfare topics and four of those eight in Sustainable Design) to remain in good standing. Architectural boards in 40 states, 10 Canadian Provinces, and 19 countries have implemented mandatory continuing education (MCE) for re-licensure.

The Association of Energy Engineers is an approved training provider within the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Continuing Education Systems (CES) Registered Provider program.

About the Seminar

Energy risk in the 21st century is forcing organizations to evolve beyond old 20th century business models. Energy-related decisions have impacts over and above the boiler room, with risks and opportunities that require a re-application of management skills. "Energy managers" pursue an agenda that is as much political and financial as it is technical. But while the need is clear, the means for implementation are not. Most organizations struggle to implement energy management relative to operations, finance, procurement, and other long-standing departmental functions with long histories and strong professional disciplines. The challenge is to create energy manager positions that are empowered and productive.

This two-hour seminar serves individuals who aspire to the energy manager position, as well as top decision makers who need clarity for implementing the position. The agenda serves as a checklist for designing, developing, implementing, and sustaining an energy manager position in the context of broader organizational functions. Discussions reveal the necessary skill sets, performance metrics, and organizational adjustments that provide an energy manager with durable success.
