AIA Learning Units Eligible


This course has been approved by AIA for continuing education credits. The AIA requires that its registered architect members earn 18 Learning Unit (LU) hours of continuing education credit annually (eight hours of which must be related to Health, Safety, and Welfare topics and four of those eight in Sustainable Design) to remain in good standing. Architectural boards in 40 states, 10 Canadian Provinces, and 19 countries have implemented mandatory continuing education (MCE) for re-licensure.

The Association of Energy Engineers is an approved training provider within the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Continuing Education Systems (CES) Registered Provider program.

JOHN FETTERS, C.E.M., C.L.E.P., is a lighting consultant and president of Effective Lighting Solutions, Inc. Columbus, OH. Mr. Fetters is a senior member of the Association of Energy Engineers and chairs AEE's Certified Lighting Efficiency Board. He is a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IESNA), for which he serves on the IES VELSD Committee and is an advisory member of the Industrial Lighting Committee. He has lectured and is widely published in the lighting field. He was inducted into the AEE Hall of Fame in 1998.

T. KENNETH SPAIN, P.E., C.E.M., C.L.E.P., G.B.E., LEED-AP, is an energy analyst with three decades of experience in applied energy management and engineering. He is an on-call research scientist at the University of Alabama, Huntsville following 25 years of service managing energy efficiency programs and conducting training programs to help government, institutional, industrial and commercial clients identify cost-effective energy strategies for their facilities. Mr. Spain was inducted into the AEE Hall of Fame in 2002.

Presented online in a series of five (four 2-1/2-hour and one 2-hour) time modules, this seminar is designed to provide the specific training and background needed by professionals preparing to sit for AEE's Certified Lighting Efficiency Professional (CLEP®) exam. The course agenda also includes updates on topics of current importance to all individuals involved in commercial, industrial or institutional lighting efficiency improvement.

You can participate in the seminar from your office, home, or anywhere you have access to the internet and a phone or VOIP. You'll have opportunities to interact with your instructor and colleagues in real time during the five live, interactive online sessions.

ABOUT THE SEMINAR

Become a Certified Lighting Efficiency Professional (CLEP). Here's your opportunity to take part in a focused, fast-paced instructional program, designed both to expand your knowledge in the field, and to serve as a preparatory vehicle for the examination required to achieve AEE's Certified Lighting Efficiency Professional (CLEP) certification. This information presented is designed to provide comprehensive professional training in the design and application of energy-effective lighting systems, with emphasis on:

  • Evaluating lighting systems through effective audits
  • Achieving energy-effective lighting systems with high regard to
    lighting quality and occupants
  • Examining the latest lighting products for your applications
  • Performing lighting calculations to obtain proper light levels
  • Evaluating and implementing effective lighting control strategies
  • Reviewing environmental impacts of lighting efficiency projects
  • Calculating and documenting savings achieved through lighting
    improvements
  • Assuring compliance with building energy codes
  • Implementing effective lighting maintenance practices

Completion of this seminar also fills the training requirement for CLEP candidates. (Optionally, you may also consider taking the 3 day Fundamentals of Lighting Efficiency live course, offered at several locations throughout the U.S. each year.)

About CLEP Certification. The requirements to qualify for the certification process have been designed to take into account the possible diversity of education and practical experience an individual may have. Each applicant for CLEP professional certification must attend one of AEE's approved training courses (either the online or live seminar program) and complete and pass a four-hour written exam, as well as meet specific educational and professional criteria. (Note that the seminar registration fee does not include the separate certification application/testing fee.)
