AIA Learning Units Eligible


This course has been approved by AIA for continuing education credits. The AIA requires that its registered architect members earn 18 Learning Unit (LU) hours of continuing education credit annually (eight hours of which must be related to Health, Safety, and Welfare topics and four of those eight in Sustainable Design) to remain in good standing. Architectural boards in 40 states, 10 Canadian Provinces, and 19 countries have implemented mandatory continuing education (MCE) for re-licensure.

The Association of Energy Engineers is an approved training provider within the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Continuing Education Systems (CES) Registered Provider program.

STEPHEN A. ROOSA, Ph.D., is president and CEO of a property development and management company located in Louisville, KY. He has over 25 years’ experience in commercial energy management and performance contracting. He is considered internationally to be an expert in energy conservation, energy management, renewables and urban sustainability. Past experience includes energy studies and projects for over 3,500 buildings. Dr. Roosa is a Certified Sustainable Development Professional, Certified Energy Manager, a Certified Indoor Air Quality Professional, a Certified Measurement & Verification Professional, a Certified Energy Monitoring and Control System Designer, a Certified Demand Side Management Specialist, a Certified Building Energy Management Professional, and a LEED Accredited Professional. He holds a Ph.D. in Planning and Urban Development an MBA and an undergraduate degree in Architecture. He is a past president of the AEE and has been inducted into the AEE Energy Manager's Hall of Fame.
 

JOHN WHITNEY, AIA is a registered architect with over 25 years experience in all aspects of project development, design, management, and construction. As co-founder and president of Taylor-Whitney Architects, his significant focus was on higher education clients and sustainable design. Mr. Whitney's passion for renewable energy led him to found the Clean Energy Action Project in 2010 as a forum for consulting services including master planning, feasibility studies, and research in the area of cleantech and renewable energy. Recent projects include development and coordination of the AASHE (Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education) "Campus Solar Photovoltaic Installations Database" and work with designWorks on the current Murray State University Master Plan.
 

Presented online in a series of four live hour time modules, this seminar is designed to provide the specific training and background needed by professionals preparing to sit for AEE's Renewable Energy Professional (REP) certification exam. The course agenda also includes updates on topics of current importance to all individuals involved in all types of renewable energy projects.

You can participate in the seminar from your office, home, or anywhere you have access to the internet and a phone or VOIP. You'll have opportunities to interact with your instructor and colleagues in real time during the six live teleconferencing sessions.


ABOUT THE SEMINAR

Become a Certified Renewable Energy Professional (REP).
Here's your opportunity to take part in a focused, fast-paced instructional program, designed both to expand your knowledge in the field, and to serve as a preparatory vehicle for the examination required to achieve AEE's Renewable Energy Professional (REP) certification. (Optionally, you may also consider taking the 3 day Fundamentals of Renewable Energy live course, offered at several locations throughout the U.S. each year.)

This online training seminar will provide you with a comprehensive overview of alternative energy sources, applications, technologies and strategies, which when brought together, provide a foundation and means for meeting an organization's renewable energy and sustainability goals. The presentation will explore the various forms of low-carbon energy sources, as well as the environmental impacts of alternative energy. Your instructors will discuss the latest developments relating to wind power systems, solar thermal heating and photovoltaic generation, geothermal heating, and electrical production, bio-fuels, waste-to-energy systems, energy storage, fuel cells, and hydroelectric power among others. Economic issues, along with financial methodologies and incentives will also be considered. Specific areas covered in this program will include:

  • Assessments of the various forms of renewable energy
  • Case examples of renewable energy projects
  • An assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of renewable energy applications
  • Using renewable energy solutions in building applications
  • An eye opening look at new opportunities for using renewable energy
  • Strategies for making a business case for using renewables
  • Lessons learned and pitfalls to avoid

About REP Certification. The requirements to qualify for the certification process have been designed to take into account the possible diversity of education and practical experience an individual may have. Each applicant for REP professional certification must attend either this online seminar or AEE’s live "Fundamentals of Renewable Energy" training seminar, and complete and pass a four-hour written exam, as well as meet specific educational and professional criteria. This seminar program covers the full scope of subjects which are addressed on the REP examination. (Note that the seminar fee does not include the certification application fee.)
