Presented online in a series of four live two-hour time modules, this seminar is designed to provide comprehensive professional training in the effective use of performance contracting for energy projects, including how to avoid the types of problems which can seriously impair the success of potentially effective and profitable projects.

You can participate in the seminar from your office, home, or anywhere you have access to the internet and a phone. You'll have opportunities to interact with your instructor and colleagues in real time during the four live teleconferencing sessions, as well as in the time between sessions.

ABOUT THE SEMINAR
Despite all its potential and many successes, performance contracting (PC) has had its share of pitfalls. While PC has been the critical answer to energy efficiency needs and tight money problems, sometimes difficulties are ignored or covered up. In some instances, problems have kept projects from saving the energy and/or the money promised. All too often simple steps could have avoided these very painful results.

Performance contracting is a recession friendly opportunity to improve the bottom line. Reduced operating costs are just as good as increased revenue, and this program shows you how to do it. As many credit-worthy organizations are now finding themselves with more limited access to investment-ready cash for energy projects -- projects that can ultimately cut their costs significantly -- performance contracting offers the perfect solution.

At this program you will also learn how to avoid very real and costly pitfalls which can occur when performance contracts are NOT properly negotiated and written: ESCOs which do not do their homework can potentially lose money big time. You'll hear details about about a firm that contractually guaranteed the token dollar and put at risk $33 million. Unless it is done right, performance contracting can become the lawyers' full employment opportunity.

Dr. Shirley Hansen, who has been a strong advocate of PC for 25 years in over 30 countries, has seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. In this course, she reveals many dilemmas facing customers and ESCOs, which could have been avoided. This 8-hour online course will provide you with:

  • A battery of tips that could save you millions
  • A critical look at the basics, which often elude us
  • A hard look at the real risks in PC
  • Ways ESCOs can avoid being dubbed "creatively challenged"
  • Procedures to deal with difficult customers and ineffective ESCOs
  • A review of energy audits - fact or fiction
  • An understanding of what an investment grade audit really is, and how it can help
  • A new look at the hidden competition: maintenance personnel
  • A realistic assessment of M&V's strengths and weaknesses and its real role
  • A strategy for making the business case for energy efficiency
  • An eye opening look at new opportunities

The course is designed to:

  • Identify and avoid costly mistakes customers and ESCOs make
  • Give engineers a more critical role in the PC industry
  • Aid ESCOs in re-engineering their services and presentations
  • Provide critical guidance in creating your own ESCO
  • Create background and format for more effective due diligence by bankers
