Presented online in a series of three live 2 hour time modules, this seminar is designed clarify and expand your understanding of commercial heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, and then to guide you in utilizing today's best practices for optimizing their performance.
You can participate in the seminar from your office, home, or anywhere you have access to the internet and a phone or VOIP. You'll have opportunities to interact with your instructor and colleagues in real time during the two live, interactive online sessions.
About This Seminar
This informative and comprehensive course is intended to help you broaden the scope of your knowledge about commercial HVAC systems, from their basic operational processes to their individual components, how these components function and interact -- and how best to utilize all of this knowledge to acheive optimum HVAC system performance while reducing energy consumption.
The instructor will explain the math involved in calculating heat transfer from boilers and chillers to coils and the conditioned space. Fan curves, pumps curves and various charts will be presented to facilitate your understanding of the operation of air, water and refrigeration systems. The air distribution system -- from fan to ducting to terminal box to outlet, and the water distribution system - - from pump to piping to heat exchanger, will also be explained and examined.
This course is designed to be of value to anyone interested in achieving a better understanding of how HVAC systems work, and how to optimize them to achieve maximum performance and energy savings. Over one hundred photos and drawings are used in this seminar to help you visualize and more clearly understand HVAC systems and components.
AIA Learning Units Eligible
This course has been approved by AIA for continuing education credits. The AIA requires that its registered architect members earn 18 Learning Unit (LU) hours of continuing education credit annually (eight hours of which must be related to Health, Safety, and Welfare topics and four of those eight in Sustainable Design) to remain in good standing. Architectural boards in 40 states, 10 Canadian Provinces, and 19 countries have implemented mandatory continuing education (MCE) for re-licensure.

The Understanding & Optimizing HVAC Systems Online Seminar will be presented in three 2-hour teleconferencing modules, covering the following topics:

Your Realtime Program Instructor
SAMUEL SUGARMAN, C.E.M., C.T.A.B., C.D.S.M., C.I.A.Q.M., is an internationally recognized HVAC and TAB consultant, instructor and author. He has consulted on projects for testing and balancing, performance evaluation, design, retrofit and commissioning of HVAC systems for cleanroom facilities, corporate headquarters, government facilities, office complexes, hotels, hospitals, fume hood labs, major retail establishments, military installations, nuclear power plants, private and public schools, colleges and universities. Mr. Sugarman was an adjunct professor at San Diego City College, and has also instructed over 250 HVAC, TAB and energy management training programs and seminars for various organizations, including AEE, ASHRAE, and the National Energy Management Institute. He has authored several books and training manuals in on topics in the areas of his expertise. He currently serves as Board Chairman of the International Registry of CTAB Professionals, and has received numerous awards and special recognition for his expertise and accomplishments in the field.
Course Materials and Advance Preparations
The seminar fee covers registration for all three two-hour program modules, seminar workbook (downloadable PDF format), course certificate, and webinar connection services. Does not include tollfree number. Attendees participating from outside of North America should use VOIP in order to avoid additional audio fees. Payment in full must be received prior to the start date of the seminar.
