Presented online in a series of two live 3-hour and one live 2-hour time modules, this seminar is designed to review fundamental and intermediate concepts and principles associated with thermodynamics. Emphasis will be on familiarizing attendees and refreshing their knowledge of analysis procedures, mathematical formulation and solution of mainstream thermodynamics problems.
AIA Learning Units Eligible
This course has been approved by AIA for continuing education credits. The AIA requires that its registered architect members earn 18 Learning Unit (LU) hours of continuing education credit annually (eight hours of which must be related to Health, Safety, and Welfare topics and four of those eight in Sustainable Design) to remain in good standing. Architectural boards in 40 states, 10 Canadian Provinces, and 19 countries have implemented mandatory continuing education (MCE) for re-licensure.
The Association of Energy Engineers is an approved training provider within the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Continuing Education Systems (CES) Registered Provider program.
You can participate in the seminar from your office, home, or anywhere you have access to the internet and a phone or VOIP. You'll have opportunities to interact with your instructor and colleagues in realtime during the four live teleconferencing sessions, as well as in the time between sessions.
About the Seminar
The material presented in this practical seminar is oriented primarily toward engineers, technicians and facilities managers who may benefit in their work from a refresher course on basic thermodynamics principles and practices. In a simple, easy to follow format, the instructor will illustrate the application of thermodynamic principles in real industrial, commercial and residential scenarios. As a participant you will learn the basics of analyzing and solving various types of practical thermodynamic problems through several instructive case studies. Laws, equations, graphs, charts, tables and diagrams, are provided to facilitate the analysis and solution of the case study problems. The program is intended to provide you with practical knowledge which you can use to:
- Solve thermodynamics problems with better understanding of energy transformation, thermodynamics concepts, steam tables, psychrometric analysis, heat engine cycles and refrigeration cycle
- Analyze and determine general size and operating parameter specifications for steam turbine related electric power generating systems
- Analyze and solve HVAC related problems using a psychrometric chart
- Analyze and solve refrigeration cycle related problems using pressure-enthalpy charts
The following offering(s) of the Thermodynamics Principles & Practices Online Seminar are currently scheduled. The program consists of two 3-hour and one 2-hour teleconferencing sessions, for a total of 8 hours of instruction.
