AIA Learning Units Eligible

This course has been approved by AIA for continuing education credits. The AIA requires that its registered architect members earn 18 Learning Unit (LU) hours of continuing education credit annually (eight hours of which must be related to Health, Safety, and Welfare topics and four of those eight in Sustainable Design) to remain in good standing. Architectural boards in 40 states, 10 Canadian Provinces, and 19 countries have implemented mandatory continuing education (MCE) for re-licensure.

The Association of Energy Engineers is an approved training provider within the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Continuing Education Systems (CES) Registered Provider program.


BOBBY RAUF , P.E., C.E.M., MBA, most recently served as a senior staff engineer at PPG Industries, Inc. He brings to this program hands-on experience in a broad spectrum of areas within large industrial plant engineering and plant maintenance departments, including electrical, controls, energy and mechanical projects. Mr. Rauf has also served as adjunct professor at Gardner-Webb University since 1989, where he has instructed classes in both the B.A. and M.B.A. programs. His teaching experience also includes conducting professional development courses at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He holds a process controls-related patent.

This course is designed for those who need to understand the fundamental principles and concepts associated with energy use and management in an industrial or commercial environment. Those who will benefit from this program include:

Presented online in a series of two live three-hour and one live 2-hour time modules, this seminar is designed to educate facility professionals, energy professionals, and others who are interested in learning practical, proven strategies for reducing energy costs in industrial or commercial environments.

You can participate in the seminar from your office, home, or anywhere you have access to the internet and a phone or VOIP. You'll have opportunities to interact with your instructor and colleagues in real time during the live teleconferencing sessions, as well as in the time between sessions.


This seminar provides an excellent opportunity for facilities managers, engineers, technicians, energy managers, and other facility-involved professionals to enhance their understanding of energy use and utilities, and to learn methods and strategies for reducing energy costs in an industrial or commercial setting. The seminar addresses usage, cost and conservation of energy in its more common forms, such as electrical, compressed air, natural gas, steam and heat.

Seminar attendees will learn various methods of reducing energy costs through well-planned, specific, results-oriented projects — which in some cases can be pursued in collaboration with and through sponsorship of local utility companies. Specific examples of energy conservation projects in industrial settings will be presented. Some of the myths associated with electricity and gas contracts will be exposed. Energy audits and tools needed to perform audits will be also be covered. Methods for formulation of an effective energy plan will be detailed. Finally, the benefits and architecture of energy management systems (EMS) and automated HVAC systems will be discussed.
